- 1733 – The first issue of the ‘New York Weekly Journal’ was published by John Peter Zenger, a colonial American printer and journalist. A year later, he was arrested on charges of libeling New York’s royal governor.
- 1872 – In defiance of the law, Susan B. Anthony votes for the first time.
- 1895 – A U.S. patent for an automobile is granted.
- 1911 – Aviator C.P. Snow completed the first transcontinental flight across America, landing at Pasadena, California. He had taken off from Sheepshead Bay, New York, on September 17th and flew a distance of 3,417 miles.1935 – The board game Monopoly is first released.
- 1943 – Vatican City bombed. Vatican City was bombed by a fascist Italian aircraft breaching the neutrality of Vatican during the second World War
- 1994 – George Foreman becomes boxing’s oldest heavyweight champion at the age of 45.
- 1995 – Assassination attempt on Canadian Prime Minister. André Dallaire tried to assassinate Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien.
- 2003 – Green Valley Killer pleads guilty. Gary Ridgeway, a serial killer also known as the Green Valley Killer plead guilty to killing 48 women in the 1980s and 1990s.
- 2004 – The Disney/Pixar movie ‘The Incredibles’ is released.
- 2007 – China’s first lunar satellite enters lunar orbit. The Chang’e 1, an unmanned lunar-orbiting spacecraft sent the first pictures of the Moon on November 26.
- 2009 – 13 killed at Ford Hood, Texas. Major Malik Hasan opened fire at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center in Fort Hood, Texas and killed 13 people, injuring 30.
