BIOGRAPHY
- Daniel Alves da Silva was born on May 6, 1983, in Juazeiro City in the Brazilian state of Bahia. He is the son of Domingos Alves da Silva, who was a farmer.
- At a very young age, Alves was fond of playing football, and he played football with the other kids in his neighborhood. His father also had a passion for football and managed to have his own football team.
- At the age of six, Alves started to play as a winger. However, he didn’t score enough goals, so his father positioned him as a right-back, which is the position that he still plays to this day.
- In his youth, Alves worked as a farmer and a trader.
- In 1996, Alves joined the Juazeiro team and played there until 1998 before joining the youth program of Bahia, playing there for three seasons.
ALVES’ BAHIA CAREER
- In 2001, after Alves played three seasons on the youth team, he debuted in Esporte Clube Bahia’s first team against the Parana Clube as part of the squad who played in Campeonato Brasileiro Serie.
- Alves’ team won with a score of 3-0, and he contributed two assists and was able to earn a penalty kick opportunity and scored another goal. The head coach of the team, Evaristo de Macedo, made Alves a starting player in the club.
- With this, Alves helped the team win the Campeonato Baiano Title in 2001.
- In 2002, Alves joined the Sevilla club after his consistent performance earned the attention of the team. During this time, Bahia won the Copa do Nordeste 2002.
ALVES’ SEVILLA CAREER
- Alves joined the team in the middle of the 2002-2003 season on loan from Bahia. In 2003, he was seen joining the squad in the FIFA World Youth Championship. He performed remarkably, and Brazil won the title.
- With his performance, Alves was ranked the third-best player in the tournament, and Sevilla decided to sign him as a permanent player.
- In June 2006, Alves was supposed to be sold to Liverpool, but the price of 8 million Euro was too high for the team. In December of 2006, Alves signed an extension to his contract with Sevilla until 2012.
- The 2006-07 season was considered to be a successful season for Alves, as he scored 5 goals in 47 games. He also became a part of all the matches in the UEFA Cup that Sevilla managed to win.
- In 2007, Alves wanted to sign with another team and associated with Marca and Chelsea. However, an unspecified bid by Chelsea, followed by two more bids, were rejected by Sevilla because the bidding amounts did not match their expectations.
- Alves was upset with these several dismissals that led hs plans to join the English Premier League. However, after Antonio Puerta died, his teammate, he reconciled with the team authorities and decided to stay with the club.
ALVES’ BARCELONA CAREER
- Alves signed with Spanish giants Barcelona in July 2008, after bidding an emotional goodbye to Sevilla. His transfer price was about 23 million Euros in the beginning and offered an additional 7 million Euros based on his performance in the following seasons.
- During the 2008-09 Champions League, Alves made his debut game for Barcelona against Wisla Krakow. Alves’ La Liga debut was a season-opener against Numancia.
- In the 2009 UEFA Champions League, Alves was not able to join the finals because of a suspension. In the next season, Alves became the key player in helping Barcelona win the La Liga title for the third consecutive time.
- Alves appeared for the first time in the Champions League in May 2011. In the final match, Barcelona defeated Manchester United with a score of 3-1, which marked their fourth European Cup.
- During the 2011-12 season, Alves became a member of the Barcelona squad that won Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup. In the next season, Alves helped the team win their fourth La Liga title.
- In 2015, Alves was a starting player for his club in the finals of the 2015 Champions League. Barcelona won the European Cup for the fifth time, defeating Juventus.
- Barcelona became the first club to win two trebles in a domestic league, the domestic cup, and the European Cup. In the same year, Alves signed a two-year contract with Barcelona, extending his stay until the end of June 2017, along with the option of extending his contract another year.
- In June 2016, Alves declared that he would leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window after playing for the club for eight years.
ALVES’ JUVENTUS CAREER
- In 2016, Alves joined Juventus, signing a two-year contract alongside an option for extending it another year. In August, Alves debuted for the club against Fiorentina with a victory of 2-1.
- Alves made his first goal for the team in September in a victory over Cagliari. In November, Alves experienced an injury.
- After recovering from his injury, Alves made several goals for the team. In June 2017, Alves appeared in the Championship League Final for the fourth time. However, his team lost against Real Madrid by a score of 4-1.
- After this, Alves and the team decided to terminate his contract.
ALVES’ PARIS SAINT-GERMAN CAREER
- In July 2017, Alves signed a two-year contract with the French Ligue team, Paris Saint-Germain. He quickly made his first appearance for the club in Trophee des Champions, where he was able to score one goal and make one assist, helping them win over Ligue 1 champions Monaco.
ALVES’ BRAZIL CAREER
- In 2003, Alves became part of the U-20 team of Brazil and debuted for the team in 2006 during an unofficial friendly match against AI-Kuwait Selection. Later on, he played internationally in a friendly game against Ecuador.
- In 2007, Alves became a part of the international squad in Copa America in 2007. He played for four games, including in the finals against Argentina, where he was able to score two goals in the 3-0 win and assisted in scoring another.
- Although Alves did not maintain a regular starting position in Brazil, he still appeared in the semi-final of the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009, when they faced South Africa. Alves scored the winning goal on a free-kick.
- In 2014, Alves was declared to be part of the Brazil team for the World Cup 2014 squad, defeating Colombia with a score of 2-1 in the quarter-final.
