EARLY LIFE
- Drederick and Elizabeth Irving gave birth to Kyrie on March 23, 1992 in Melbourne, Australia.
- Born in a family of basketball players, he grew up watching his father play professionally for the Bulleen Boomers (Australia) and for adult league games (New Jersey, USA).
- His father’s storied basketball career at Boston University finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer in 1988. However, he never managed to realize his NBA dreams.
- When he was four, his mother died, so Kyrie was brought up by his father and aunts.
HIGHSCHOOL CAREER
- Immersed in the sport, Kyrie Irving began his career at Montclair Kimberley Academy before transferring to St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth.
- Alongside future NBA pro Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Irving led St. Patrick to the state championship as a junior.
- He averaged 17.0 Points per Game (ppg.), 5.0 Rebounds per Game (rpg.), 6.0 Assists per Game (apg.) and 2.0 Steals per Game (spg.)
- When he reached his senior year he was selected to:
- The 2010 Junior National Select team
- The McDonald’s All-American team
- The 2010 Jordan Brand Classic, where he was named co-MVP with Harrison Barnes
- The United States gold medal winning team at the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship

- Kyrie finished his senior year with 24.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg., and 7.0 apg
COLLEGE CAREER
- Enrolled at Duke University, Irving became one of the rare freshman point guards to start for legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski.
- Through the first eight games of the season, he averaged 17.4 points per game on 53.2% shooting, 5.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.
- Kyrie performed one of his best college performances with his 31-point performance against Michigan State in December 2010.
- Irving was a strong contender for NCAA Freshman of the Year until he suffered a severe ligament injury in his right big toe during the ninth game of the season.
- Kyrie played only 11 games for Duke before being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
CLEVELAND CAVALIERS CAREER
- Kyrie played for the Cavaliers for seven seasons.
- Irving was called to the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge, where he played for Team Chuck. Irving scored 34 points in the game, going 8-of-8 from three-point range, and earned MVP honors.
- He was named MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend, and a few months later he was voted the Rookie of the Year.
- With his dribbling skills and ability to make acrobatic shots, Irving was recognized as one of the top guards in the league. He earned his first All-Star selection in 2013, and the following year he was named MVP of the game.
- Irving recorded his first career triple-double with 21 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds on February 28, 2014, in a 99-79 win over the Utah Jazz.
- During the 2014-2015 season, a new “Big Three” in Cleveland was formed. This consisted of Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and Kevin Love.
- Irving helped the team reach the NBA finals, but sustained an injury during the game at the 2015 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. Despite the hype, Cleveland Cavaliers lost in game six.
- In 2016, the Cavs earned a finals rematch against the Warriors. He proved his skills after scoring 41 points to help Cleveland hold off elimination in Game 5. He delivered the winning three-pointer in Game 7 to give the Cavaliers their first championship in franchise history.
- In 2017, Irving and his teammates met the Warriors in the finals for the third straight year, but were overwhelmed by Golden State’s high-scoring forward, Kevin Durant, and lost in 5 games.
BOSTON CELTICS CAREER
- In July 2017, Irving requested the Cavaliers to trade him, reportedly to be more of the focal point of his own team. He was then traded to the Boston Celtics.
- He helped lead the Celtics to the postseason, but he suffered a season-ending injury. His team faced the Cavaliers, but lost 4-3.
