EARLY LIFE
- Paul Labile Pogba was born on March 15, 1993 in Lagny-sur-Marne, France, to a Guinean father, Fassou Antoine Pogba and a Congolese mother, Yeo Moriba.
- He has two older twin brothers, Florentin and Mathias, who were born in Guinea and play for the Guinean National Team.
- Florentin is currently a defender for FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and Mathias plays as a forward for Racing Murcia FC.
- Growing up, Paul Pogba supported Arsenal FC.
- His mother was highly involved in Paul’s upbringing and supported his love for football from an early age.
CLUB CAREER
- Pogba joined his first football club US-Roissy-en-Brie at the age of 6. His technique improved greatly and after seven years, he appeared as a highly competitive young player.
- Pogba soon joined U.S. Torcy’s under-13 team as the team captain before joining Le Havre.
- While playing for Le Havre, Pogba was noticed by several clubs who wanted to recruit him.
- In July 2009, Pogba announced that he was leaving Le Havre and moving to Manchester United’s youth academy. Le Havre saw this as a breach of contract and asked FIFA to monitor the issue. FIFA later decided that Pogba’s move was legal.
- In October 2009, Pogba made his debut with Manchester United’s under-18 team.
- In November 2010, he became part of the club’s reserve team.
- In February 2011, he was promoted to the first team by then-manager Alex Ferguson. He continued playing for the under-18 team and won the Youth Cup.
- In January 2012, Pogba made his Premier League debut against Stoke City. Later on, he had his UEFA Europa League debut.
- In July 2012, it was announced that Pogba did not sign a new contract with Manchester United.
- He soon joined Juventus, and in his first season with the Italian club, Pogba played in the UEFA Champions League and the Serie A impressively.
- In December 2013, Pogba was declared “Golden Boy,” given to the best young European player.
- In 2014, Pogba was evidently one of the key players in the team. He secured the Serie A title for his team and he helped in making Juventus reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
- In October, it was announced that Pogba was on the shortlist for the 2014 Ballon d’Or.
- In May 2015, Pogba led the team to victory in the Serie A. Juventus also won the Coppa Italia trophy.
- In June, he helped them reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League.
- In July, Pogba was one of the contenders for the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.
- In August 2016, Pogba returned to Manchester United for around 105 million Euro, one of the highest fees in transfer history.
- In February 2017, Manchester United won the EFL Cup. In May, they won the Europa League.
- In 2018, rumors circulated that Pogba and then-manager Jose Mourinho did not get along. When Ole Gunnar Solskjær later replaced Mourinho, Pogba’s good performance resumed.
- In July 2020, Manchester United rejected an offer from Real Madrid for Pogba.
- In January 2020, Pogba underwent surgery for past injuries after being unfit to play in previous months. He returned in June 2020.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
- Pogba started his international career for France with the youth football team. Pogba made his international debut in 2008 when France played against Wales.
- In January 2009, Pogba scored his first youth international goal in the 2009 Aegean Cup Final. Later on, France won the tournament.
- Pogba played in the 2010 UEFA under-17 Championship.
- In October 2010, Pogba made his under-18 debut against Greece in a 4-1 win.
- He debuted in the under-19 team against Italy in September 2011.
- He captained France’s U-20 team as they won the FIFA U-20 World Cup. He was also declared the best player of the tournament.
- In March 2013, Pogba debuted for France’s senior team in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
- He played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, though France only reached the quarter-finals.
- In 2018, Pogba was included in France’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. France eventually won the World Cup against Croatia, with Pogba scoring in the final.
OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL
- Pogba is an ambassador of the sportswear brand Adidas.
- He is known for his creative hairstyles on the field.
- He loves Italian food, classical music, and playing instruments.
- In March 2020, Pogba set up a fundraising page and pledged financial support to UNICEF to help the children affected by the coronavirus.
- Pogba practices the Islam faith.
