EARLY LIFE AND CAREER
- His full name is Thiago Emiliano da Silva and he was born on the September 22, 1984 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- He was born to Angela Maria da Silva and Geraldo Emiliano da Silva.
- Thiago grew up with his siblings Erivelton and Danila in a shantytown, inside the city of Rio de Janeiro. Thiago and his family endured poverty and illness. Soon, his parents divorced.
- His interest in football began in his childhood, together with his friend and neighbor David Luiz, another professional football player in the future.
- Silva’s football career started at Fluminense.
- However, his skills were yet to be discovered since he had to apply to different football clubs until he was invited by the RS Futebol club coach.
- Silva became a professional in 2002 and competed in the third division of the Campeonato Gaúcho.
- At 20 years old, Silva transitioned from midfield to defense during his stay at Juventude for six months. In 2004, he signed with Porto but played only for the reserve team.
- The following year, he joined Dynamo Moscow, but was diagnosed with tuberculosis and hospitalised for six months.
- He returned to Fluminense where he developed the nickname of “O Monstro”, Portuguese for “The Monster”.
- His performances enabled him to take part in the 2008 Brasileirão Team of the Season, 2008 Copa Libertadores and the 2008 Summer Olympics.
- Many international teams soon began to offer a position for him, including Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Villarreal.
- After negotiation and actual performance, he was officially registered as a Milan player for the 2009–10 season.
- He received training from legendary players and managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Paolo Maldini.
- His performances in each game drew appreciation from the management and the board.
- Thiago Silva was named the third-best central defender in the Serie A in his very first season for Milan. His next season for the Italian giants was even better, being voted the best central defender by the fans and professionals alike.
- However, his 2011-2012 season dwindled as injuries began to plague him, resulting to his team’s fall down the league.
- It was in this same year that negotiations of his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain were cemented.
- The next season, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi presented Silva to the media as the “best defender in the world”. After being declared fit to play, Silva scored the second goal in PSG’s 4–1 victory on his debut.
- In the following two seasons, Silva was rated by France Football as one of the league’s best players, as well as the best defender in Ligue 1.
- He dominated his games throughout his stay from seasons 2015-2019.
- In April 2020, PSG were awarded the 2019–20 Ligue 1 title. The season was ended early due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
- On June 13, 2020, PSG revealed that Thiago Silva would be leaving the club at the end of the Champions League campaign in August, alongside his teammate Edinson Cavani.

- Silva was selected for the 2008 Olympics, 2010 World Cup, 2011 Copa América, 2013 Confederations Cup, the 2014 World Cup, 2015 Copa América, 2018 World Cup, and 2019 Copa América.
- Silva has been recognized as a complete defender. He has been described as a consistent defender and someone who can lead any defense.
- Silva is considered one of the fastest and strongest defenders in European football with good aerial ability.
- Silva and his wife Isabelle have two sons named Isago and Iago. Silva is also a Christian.
- On March 15, 2019, after playing for almost seven years in France with PSG, Thiago announced that he, Isabelle and their children had also become French citizens.
- The UK rappers Dave & AJ Tracey have a song named after Silva named “Thiago Silva”.
