- Skopje is North Macedonia’s political, cultural, economic, and academic center.
- Skopje’s metropolitan area is 1,845 km² wide.
- Skopje has an elevation of 240 m or 790 ft.
- The national flag of North Macedonia features a stylized depiction of a yellow sun on a red field. The sun has eight rays extending from the center to the edge of the field.
- The flag was created by Miroslav Grcev, a Macedonian architect, graphic designer, and comic artist.
- The flag was adopted on October 5, 1995.

- North Macedonia is a landlocked country, meaning it is not surrounded by any major bodies of water.
- North Macedonia is bordered by Kosovo to the Northwest, Serbia to the Northeast, Bulgaria to the East, Greece to the South, and Albania to the west.
- North Macedonia constitutes a third of the larger geographical region of Macedonia, a geographical and historical region in the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe.
- North Macedonia’s total area is 25,713 km².
- North Macedonia is utilized as a transit route for shipment of items from Greece and Bulgaria.
- The name Macedonia was first adopted by the Socialist Republic of Macedonia at the end of WWII, as it was one of the six constituent countries of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
- In 1991, the country changed its name to the Republic of Macedonia, after the fall of Communism and breaking up with Yugoslavia.
- In June 2018, the Republic of Macedonia had a dispute with Greece regarding the use of the name Macedonia.

HISTORY
- The first rulers of North Macedonia came from the ancient kingdom of Paeonia located in the northern region of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia.
- Achaemenid Persians conquered Paeonians in the 4th century BCE.
- Philip II of Macedon ruled Upper Macedonia and made it into the Kingdom of Macedon in 356.
- The Roman Empire conquered Macedonia in the 2nd century BCE, and established the Province of Macedonia.
- The Ottoman Empire ruled Macedonia from the mid-14th until the 20th century.
- North Macedonia fell under Serbian rule following the Balkan wars of 1912 and 1913.
- Bulgaria ruled North Macedonia from 1915 to 1918, and from 1941 until 1944.
- It became a constituent state of the communist Yugoslavia in 1845 until 1991.
- North Macedonia became a republic in 1991, and a member of the United Nations in 1993.
- It changed its name in February 2019 after having a dispute with Greece regarding using the name Macedonia.

- Vrelo Cave — The deepest underwater cave in the world, found in the Matka Canyon of Skopje. The cave is 330 meters deep but people can only dive up to 213 meters.
- Korab Falls — Located in Polog, a waterfall with a single plunge that is 100-138 meters high, making it the tallest plunge in the Balkan region.
- Lake Ohrid — Found in Southwestern North Macedonia, the deepest lake in the Balkans.
- Kale Fortress — In Skopje, a massive fortress built in the 6th century CE.
