CHARACTERISTICS
- Rabbits are small mammals that have soft, fluffy features. They have short tails, whiskers, and long ears. Some rabbits can be the size of a cat, while some can grow as big as a small child. There are over 45 different breeds of rabbits. Males are called bucks, and females are called does. Rabbits weigh between 2 and 11 pounds and have good memories. They have 28 teeth, which continue to grow throughout their entire life! Rabbits have large eyes and their ears are very sensitive to sound.
DIET
- Rabbits are herbivores. In the summer, they like to eat wild strawberries, herbs, grass, lettuce,
- peas, and flowers. In the winter, rabbits munch on buds, twigs, and bark from trees. Their diet is very important. Rabbits usually eat around dusk but also eat at dawn.
- They graze heavily and quickly.
- A 4-pound rabbit usually drinks as much water as a 20-pound dog!
- Rabbits are incapable of vomiting.
- Because of this, if they do not get enough fiber, they can experience internal problems.
