- Wisconsin.Wisconsin is a U.S. state located in the north-central United States, in the midwest and Great Lakes regions. The region was first explored by Jean Nicolet, who landed at Green Bay in 1634.
- It was obtained by Great Britain through the French and Indian wars in 1763, and acquired by the U.S. in 1783 after the Revolutionary War. Great Britain, however, retained its actual control after the war of 1812.
- The region was successfully governed as part of the territories of Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan between 1800 and 1836, when it became a separate territory.
- The dark blue flag of Wisconsin has its name on top and 1848 below – its date of admission to the Union. The coat of arms feature the U.S. motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” or One out of Many and the national shield surrounded by a bigger shield with four quadrants featuring a plow, pick and shovel, arm and hammer, and an anchor. The shield, flanked by a miner and a sailor, appear in the middle and above it is a motto that says forward. Above the center shield is a badger, while below are a cornucopia and pyramid of 13 lead ingots.
- Wisconsin is the dairy capital of the United States and is oftentimes called as “America’s Dairyland.” As anticipated, its major production is milk and cheese, with some other farm products such as beans, peas, corn, potatoes, hay, oats and cranberries.
- The state is also known for its lakes (14,000) and streams and rivers (7,446). Winnebago is the largest among its lakes. Water sports, ice-boating, fishing, skiing and hunting are popular in this state.
The state is a pioneer in some vital social legislations such as:
- Pensions for the Blind (1907);
- Aid to Dependent Children (1913);
- Old Age Assistance (1925);
- Unemployment Compensation Law of 1932; and
- Uniform Marital Property Act of 1984.
