Early Life
- David Robert Joseph Beckham was born to parents David Edward and Sandra Beckham on May 2, 1975 in Leytonstone, England.
- Growing up, David always dreamed of becoming a professional football player. His all-time favorite team was Manchester United.
- At age 11, he won the Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools Nationals Skills Competition which led to him go to Barcelona where he was noticed by talent scouts of Manchester United.
Manchester United and World Cups
- At age 16, David dropped out of school to join the Manchester United youth league.
- In 1992, he played for the team in his first professional game. He began to grow a reputation for his ability to score in sensational ways during critical points of a game.
- In 1996, he scored a goal with a kick of almost 60 yards.
- In 1997, David won the Young Player of the Year award after Manchester United won the Premier League Championship.
- David mastered a bending free-kick that would be named the “Beckham” after him. He is the first player in the sport to do so.
- David played for team England in his first World Cup in 1998. His career took a turn when he was given a red card during a match against Argentina for kicking an opponent player. This earned the Argentina team penalty kicks leading to their win.
- Upon returning home, he was faced with harsh criticism from the public and the press. He issues a public apology saying he will always regret his actions.
- In 1999, David helped Manchester United win the English Premier League, Football Association Cup, and the European Champions League.
- On November of 2000, he was given the captain position for England’s national team for the World Cup. He captained the team for 59 games before he stepped down from the role in 2006.
- In 2002, David helped team England advance to the World Cup quarter-finals. The team unfortunately lost to Brazil.
- David is fiercely loyal to the Manchester United team and would later on state that he would never play for any rival team in the Premier League.
- During his time with Manchester United, David won the Premier League title six times. He played 265 league matches and scored 65 goals.
Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint Germain
- In 2003, David signed a $40 million contract with Real Madrid in Spain. However, he wasn’t able to perform at his top level during his stint there due several sports-related injuries that he sustained.
- He chose #23 as his new jersey number for Real Madrid because his old jersey number #7 has already been taken.
- During this year, he signed a lifetime contract with Adidas worth $160 million.
- He played four seasons for the team and won the La Liga championship during his final season.
- David and his family moved to Los Angeles in 2007. He signed a five-year contract with LA Galaxy worth $250 million.
- During his stay with LA Galaxy, he was loaned to the AC Milan club twice.
- He teared his Achilles tendon during a match while he played for AC Milan resulting in him missing out on the 2010 World Cup.
- He played his final game with LA Galaxy on the 1st of December, 2012.
- In January of 2013, David received $5.3 million to play for Paris Saint-Germain for five months, all of which he donated to charity for children.
- At his first training session in Paris, over 150 reporters came to take photos of him on the field.
- David won league titles in four different countries when he played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain.
- He announced his retirement on the 16th of May, 2013 after a 20 year professional career and 19 major trophies. He says his body was taking longer to recover after every injury he sustained and he wanted to stop before it reached a point beyond repair.
- In February 2014, David announced his intentions to establish a Major League Soccer franchise in Miami.

- David began dating Victoria Adams (Posh of the famed pop group Spice Girls) in 1997. They got married on the 4th of July 1999. The couple was considered tabloid royalty – their wedding earning international press coverage.
- They are now parents to three sons – Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz, and a daughter – Harper.
- David is a fan of getting inked. He has at least 40 tattoos in various parts of his body.
- He suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and ornithophobia, the fear of birds.
- A film based on David’s football skills was released in 2002 titled “Bend it Like Beckham”.
- In 2003, David released his autobiography titled “Beckham – Both Feet On The Ground” which quickly became an international best-seller.
- Between 2003 and 2004, the name “David Beckham” was the most searched sports topic on Google.
- In 2004, he was listed in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players.
- His legs were insured for $70 million in case he sustains injuries that would render him incapable of ever playing again. His left foot is often mentioned in pop culture as one of Great Britain’s greatest treasures.
- When David played for the Paris Saint-Germain team, he took French lessons weekly to make his stay in Paris more enjoyable.
- He is consistently in ranks for highest earners in sports. He was the best paid player in the world in 2013, with earnings of over $50 million. His current net worth is $450 million.

- In March 2013, David was appointed as a global ambassador for Chinese football.
