- Ordinal numbers are very useful. They have a lot of applications in everyday life.
- Whenever we need to the tell the importance, position or rank of something we use Ordinal numbers.
- Here are a few examples of the applications of ordinal numbers:
A few children are competing in a spelling competition. The child with the highest score will have the first position.
Five children are running a marathon race. The child that completes the track in the shortest duration will be first. The child who reaches after him will be second and so on.
I enjoyed attending the first two classes but the third class was very hectic.
- We also use ordinal numbers to write dates.
- Here are a few examples:
Tom joined school on 5th and his summer holidays will start from 23rd.
Sarah’s birthday is on 6th august and she would love to celebrate it with her friends.

- If apple is the first fruits ..
- Which fruit is third?
- Which fruit is fifth?
- What place is the pear in?
- What place is the peach in?
- Cherry is the third fruit.
- Watermelon is the fifth fruit.
- Pear is in the second place.
- Peach is in the fourth place.
Example #2:
- In the given line of popsicles the purple popsicle is the first.
- What is the color of the third popsicle?
- What is the color of the fourth popsicle?
- At what position is the blue popsicle?
- At what position is the red popsicle?
- The third popsicle is green in color.
- The fourth popsicle is yellow in color.
- The blue popsicle is at second position.
- The red popsicle is at fifth position.

- Eight balls are given in the diagram below:
- Color the first ball red.
- Color the second blue.
- Color the third ball green.
- Color the fourth ball yellow
- Color the fifth ball pink.
- Color the sixth ball purple.
- Color the seventh ball orange.
- Color the eighth ball grey.

- Following is a list of students and their scores in the English quiz:
- Who scored the first position?
