Pennsylvania, officially the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is a U.S. state that is located in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, and the Great Lakes region. - The territory of Pennsylvania was under the royal grant of King Charles II given to William Penn in 1681 after early settlements by the Swedish and the Dutch. He signed a treaty with the Lenni Lenape Indians along with the establishment of Germantown inhabitant by the German migrants.
- By early 1800s, Penn recognized religious freedom and tolerance following the first Catholic congregation in Philadelphia. In 1744, Benjamin Franklin began his kite experiment making the difference in the field of electricity. He also became the first postmaster general after the Second Continental Congress in 1775 along George Washington as the supreme commander. The Committee of Five was established to draft the declaration of independence that was later signed in Philadelphia. While in 1780, Pennsylvania abolished slavery first among the states. After seven years, the constitution was ratified. James Buchanan became the first and only US president from Pennsylvania in 1857.
- During the 1900s, Pennsylvania faced disasters due to the major explosion in Cheswick, race demonstration riots in Philadelphia, Marianna coal explosion, Oakdale chemical factory explosion, influenza epidemic that killed thousands of people, Firedamp coal explosion in Mather, Legionnaireโs disease, oil tank collapsed that caused oil spilling in Monongahela River, and many more.
