- His parents are Alfred and Monika Schweinsteiger. He has an older brother named Tobias who also played football.
- His family owned a sporting goods shop.
- He was childhood friends with Felix Neureuther, a German retired World Cup alpine ski racer.
Club Career
- As a child, Schweinsteiger played for FV Oberaudorf. From 1992 to 1998, he played with TSV 1860 Rosenheim.
- When he was 14, he signed with the youth team of FC Bayern Munich.
- He became a part of the reserve team in 2001.
- He debuted for the senior team in 2002 and established himself as an effective player. During his first season with Bayern’s first team, he won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
- The 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons were successful for Schweinsteiger as Bayern secured the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. He was permanently promoted to the senior team in 2005.
- In 2007, Bayern won the DFL-Ligapokal against Schalke 04.
- He helped Bayern win both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal during the 2007–08, 2009–10, 2012–13, 2013–14 seasons.
- In 2010, Bayern won the DFL-Supercup.
- Schweinsteiger’s winning penalty sent his club to the finals of the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League, where they eventually finished second after losing to Chelsea.
- In the following year, they topped the UEFA Champions League. Schweinsteiger was one of the players with the most assists.
- During his last season with Bayern, he helped them win the 2014–15 Bundesliga title.

- Schweinsteiger was crucial in Germany’s 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. He was recognized as one of the best midfielders of the tournament as Germany finished third.
- Schweinsteiger was included in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Dream Team. He was also named the Germany national team’s Player of the Year.
- He participated in the Euro 2012 as Germany made it to the semi-finals.
- Bastian was a crucial part of Germany’s midfield when they finished as champions of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
- Schweinsteiger eventually became the captain of Germany.
- In 2013, he was declared the German Footballer of the Year.
- He participated in the Euro 2016. Germany made it to the semi-finals. After the cup, he retired from international football.
