- Gerry Lester Watson Jr. was born in Bagdad, Florida, on November 5, 1978.
- His father nicknamed him after Bubba Smith, a former professional American football player.
- Bubba Watson learned to play golf by hitting Wiffle balls around their house.
- He attended and played for Milton High School.
- Watson also played in nearby Baldwin County, Alabama, for Faulkner State Community College. He was a junior college All-American at the college.
- Bubba then transferred to the University of Georgia and played for the university’s sports team, the Bulldogs.
CAREER
- Watson became a professional golfer in 2002, joining the Nationwide Tour. He played on the tour until 2005.
- His first PGA Tour game was at the Compaq Classic of New Orleans.
- He finished in 63rd place on the 2003 money list for the Korn Ferry Tour.
- In 2004, he made the longest recorded drive in the history of the Korn Ferry Tour at the Gila River Classic.
- In 2006, he led the PGA Tour with a driving distance of 319.6 yards and earned $1,109,264 as a rookie.
- He shot his longest drive of 424 yards on the PGA Tour at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
- Bubba Watson won his first PGA Tour title at the Travelers Championship on June 27, 2010. He dedicated this win to his parents, specifically to his cancer-stricken father.
- Watson was runner-up at the PGA Championship of the same year.
- Bubba has his own clothing line named “Bubba Golf”.
- He was also seen on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after sending Ellen a golf trick shot video he made for her birthday.
- On January 30, 2011, Watson won the Farmers Insurance Open, his second title on the PGA Tour.
- On May 1, 2011, he defeated Webb Simpson at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, winning his third PGA Tour title.
- The Hyundai Tournament of Champions hosted a Long Drive Contest for charity, where Watson placed second.
- At the start of the 2012 season, Watson got to the top 5 in three of his seven events.
- His first major championship title was at the Masters. This win placed him in fourth place in the 2012 world rankings.
- Watson started 2013 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. He bagged fourth place and reached the quarterfinals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
- He played at the Masters again to defend his title, but finished 50th.
- In 2014, he led for most of the Waste Management Phoenix Open but finished as runner-up.
- Bubba’s 5th career PGA tour win was at the 2014 Northern Trust Open, which raised him to 14th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
- In the same year, Watson became the 17th player to win the Masters two or more times. This victory moved him further up the world rankings to number 4.
- In 2015, he moved to number 3 in the world rankings after winning the Travelers Championship. His second win for the year was at the unofficial Hero World Challenge.
- In 2016, he publicly admitted his dislike for the TPC Scottsdale at Arizona, causing a little controversy. Nonetheless, he won the Northern Trust Open for the second time.
- Watson did not have any title wins in 2017.
- In 2018, he bagged 3 PGA Tour titles for the first time in his career.
- He finished with three top 10s and made 14 cuts in 2019.
PERSONAL LIFE
- Bubba Watson married Angela Ball in September 2004. They met at Georgia while he was playing for the golf team, and Angela was on the women’s basketball team.
- Bubba Watson’s father died from throat cancer on October 15, 2010.
- Bubba and his wife adopted a one-month-old baby in March 2012, naming him Caleb. In December 2014, they adopted Dakota.
- In 2014, he formed the Bubba Watson Foundation, with the mission of enhancing the daily lives of people in need.
- He also started Bubba’s Bash, a yearly charity event where guest speakers and various artists share their love of God.
- Without telling his family or friends, he went back to Georgia to finish his degree. He wanted to inspire kids to complete their studies and pursue their dreams.
- Bubba is also a part of the band “Golf Boys”. Their single “Oh Oh Oh” is on YouTube. Farmers Insurance Group, the producer of the video, donates $1000 to charity for every 100,000 views.
- Bubba Watson devotes a large chunk of his time and money to charity.
- He speaks openly about the importance of his faith in his life.
- He is also now the owner of Tiger Woods’ mansion at Windermere, Florida.
- Watson and his family moved to Pensacola in 2015.
- In July 2016, he opened Bubba’s Sweet Shop, which sells candy, ice cream, and fudge.
- He also became a part-owner of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Minor League Baseball team and co-owner of Sandy & Bubba’s Milton Chevrolet.
- Watson also announced that he was thinking of becoming mayor of Pensacola in the future.
