- However, it wasnβt until 1970 that the championship game was called Super Bowl, which was initially called AFL-NFL World Championship Game.
- From 1966 to 2022, the National Football Conference (NFC) won 29 championships and lost 27. Its rival division, the American Football Conference (AFC), has 27 wins and 29 losses.
- The New England Patriots (6 wins – 5 losses & 11 appearances) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (6 wins – 2 losses & 8 appearances) are the winningest teams in Super Bowl.
- They are closely followed by the Dallas Cowboys (5-3) and San Francisco 49ers (5-2). Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans are yet to make an appearance in the Super Bowl.
- Eight teams have made Super Bowl appearances but never emerged victorious. Additionally, eight clubs now had lengthy absences or droughts from the Super Bowl, such as the New York Jets since 1968.
- Green Bay Packers (twice: Super Bowls I and II; XXXI and XXXII), Dallas Cowboys (thrice: V and VI; XII and XIII; XXVII and XXVIII), and the Miami Dolphins (VI, VII, and VIII) have most consecutive appearances in Super Bowl.

SUPER BOWL HALF-TIME
- Besides the game itself, one of the highlights of the Super Bowl is the Halftime performance. The performers and performance are always top-notch. From the pregame show to the halftime show to the national anthem, there is always something special about the Super Bowl.
- According to Billboard.com, the most popular halftime performance was by singer Prince in 2007 – who sang his famous songs: βPurple Rain,β β1999,β βLetβs Go Crazy,β βProud Mary,β and βAll Along the Watchtowerβ
- So how is the halftime managed, and who chooses the performers? Starting with performers who are well-liked by the greatest number of people, the league moves forward from there.
- Who takes the stage, though, is not decided by the NFL. Although the host towns choose the Super Bowl halftime artists, the NFL creates a short list.
- In Super Bowl LVI (2022), the chosen performers were Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and other guests, including 50 Cent and Anderson. It was attended by 70,048 fans and gained 112.3 million U.S. TV viewers.
- However, the glitz and glamor of famous pop stars were not the halftime performers in the early days.
- The University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band, the Grambling State University Marching Band, trumpeter Al Hirt, and the Anaheim High School Ana-Hi-Steppers Drill Team and Flag Girls performed the first Super Bowl halftime performance in 1967.
- Since then, captivating more audiences through popular icons performing halftime became a norm for better income and publicity for the NFL league.
- Advertisements also cost millions of dollars. As of January 2021, Amazon’s “Before Alexa” and Google’s “Loretta” Super Bowl 2020 advertisements were tied for the record for the most expensive Super Bowl commercials ever. It cost them 16.8 million US dollars for a 90-second advertisement.
