LEARNING OBJECTIVE
- At the end of the lesson, students will learn and practice experiencing number combinations to make a ten.
A NOTE FOR THE TEACHER
- When teaching adding numbers to make a ten, try the following in your lesson:
- Use the number of objects to correlate with the number. This way, students recognize the quantity with a written digit.
- Teaching vocabulary is important at this stage. Students must be able to correctly associate a written number with the spoken word and its tangible amount.
THEORY
- For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation.
- Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.
- Gone fishing, we catch 10 fish.
- How many orange and how many blue colored fish make up the 10 fish we have caught?
- Choose the correct numbers from the blocks below to complete.
