- The Duke accepted an invitation to a new role as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment following the conclusion of his military career.

PERSONAL LIFE AND LEGACY
- Due to their families’ mutual love of polo, he has known Sarah Ferguson since they were young.
- On July 23, 1986, Prince Andrew and Sarah married in Westminster Abbey.
- George VI, his maternal grandfather, had held the titles Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh before Sarah became the Duchess of York.
- In 1990, Princess Eugenie was born, while in 1988, Princess Beatrice was born. The Princesses are placed tenth and twelfth, respectively, in the line of succession.
- Although Sarah gained favorable media attention, their marriage failed because he was frequently deployed in the Navy. They split up in March 1992, and after images of Sarah with her American financial advisor appeared in the media, they were officially divorced on May 30, 1996. However, they are still on good terms.
Service in the Royal Navy
- From a young age, Prince Andrew aspired to be a helicopter pilot. After completing his A-levels in 1979, he was commissioned as a Seaman Officer with a subspecialization in piloting into the Royal Navy for a brief period.
- After graduating from Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth in 1980, midshipman Prince Andrew trained to fly fixed-wing aircraft at RAF Leeming and helicopters at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.
- The Duke of Edinburgh gave Prince Andrew his “Wings” and the best pilot award in 1981.
- Prior to joining his first combat unit, Sub Lieutenant Prince Andrew became a Sea King helicopter pilot and sailed aboard HMS Invincible.
- As part of Task Group, the unit sailed to the South Atlantic in April 1982 in order to recover the Falkland Islands. Throughout the battle, Prince Andrew flew missions involving casualty evacuation, inter-ship helicopter delivery (HDS), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), search and rescue (SAR), and ASW.
- When HMS Invincible returned to Portsmouth in September 1982, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II welcomed the ship.
- After serving twenty-two years in the Royal Navy as an active member, the Duke of York was appointed Lt Cder The Duke of York and given command of the Hunt Class Mine Counter Measures Vessel HMS Cottesmore.
- He then went back to flying and was assigned to 815 NAS at RNAS Portland, where he remained until October 1996.
- In January 1997, he was employed by the Ministry of Defense in the Directorate of Naval Operations as a Staff Officer. He was promoted to Commander in 1999 and left the Royal Navy in July 2001 to take a job in the Naval Staff.
Sexual Assault Case
- Andrew faced accusations in 2015 of engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior with young women at American financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s parties. The claims were refuted, but they were brought up once more in August 2019 after Epstein passed away.
- In a TV interview in November 2019, he refuted the accusations but stated he was not sorry about his friendship with Epstein. Following his alleged haughtiness in the interview, Andrew and the Royal Family faced a crisis in their public image, and several organizations and charities he supported declared that they would no longer accept him as a patron.
- The Duke announced on November 20, 2019, that he was taking a leave of absence from his public duties “for the foreseeable future” in a statement issued by Buckingham Palace.
- The announcement was made on January 13, 2022, that he would relinquish his HRH title, honorary military titles, and royal patronages.
